Guard Tyler Herro led the Miami Heat in scoring in yesterday’s preseason opener against the Charlotte Hornets.

Herro finished the night with 22 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 assists on 40.9 percent shooting. His efforts, along with Cole Swider’s 17 points, led the Heat over the Hornets 113–109.

In only 23 minutes, Herro attempted 22 shots in the absence of Jimmy Butler and Caleb Martin. However, he only reached the free throw line once, which is an aspect of his game he hopes to improve on.

Herro sustained a broken hand in Game 1 against the Milwaukee Bucks, which sidelined him for the remainder of the postseason. Following this, he was placed at the center of trade negotiations surrounding Milwaukee Bucks guard Damian Lillard.

Despite averaging over 20 points the last two years, teams such as the Portland Trail Blazers showed little interest in the former Sixth Man of the Year. Herro is remaining with Miami as he enters his fifth season with a chip on his shoulder.

Herro was recently disrespected by ESPN, which ranked him as the No. 79 best player entering next season. The likes of Austin Reaves, Scoot Henderson, and Chet Holmgren were placed ahead of him.

In his eyes, he is untradeable but is determined to prove that to the Heat’s organization.
