Who's the One Team That'll 'Never' Trade With the Knicks?

The NBA trade deadline is a world of possibilities ... except one involving the New York Knicks, apparently.

Never say never ... unless you're the New York Knicks trying to trade for Kyrie Irving or any other Barclays Center resident.

As Feb. 9 looms, NBA teams are finding each other on the metaphorical dance floor in pursuit of heightening playoff chances of hastening rebuilds. While only the Los Angeles Lakers and Washington Wizards have truly connected thus far (Rui Hachimura switching hands), the tremors continue throughout the Association, ones that could relocate names like O.G. Anunoby, Jae Crowder, and Irving of the Brooklyn Nets, whose trade request from Brooklyn was made public on Friday.

Though they may be neighbors, however, don't expect the Knicks to ever venture over to their neighbors in Brooklyn for a point guard or a cup of sugar: speaking on ESPN New York 98.7, Stephen A. Smith claimed that there's a mutual understanding between the boroughs that they will never collaborate.

"Sean Marks and the Brooklyn Nets have an understanding with the New York Knicks," Smith said on "The Michael Kay Show." "They'll never do a deal with New York. That's what I've been told directly."

Even when the Nets were based in New Jersey, the teams weren't exactly trying to negotiate with each other, uniting for four deals between 1978 and 1983. Among the names were future NBA head coaches Phil Jackson and Mike Woodson, as well as the draft pick the Knicks would use, ironically, to select Micheal Ray Richardson.
