Could Knicks Fill Roster Through 'Internal' Means?

In this story:
The NBA's trade deadline has come and gone, but the New York Knicks continue to seek further transactions to bolster their roster as the regular season homestretch looms.
New York (33-27) has two roster spots open after deadline activity saw them send away Cam Reddish, Ryan Arcidiacono, and Svi Mykhailiuk to Portland in exchange for Josh Hart. Granted, options may be relatively limited with trading barred for the remainder of the year, but Michael Scotto of HoopsHype hints that an "internal" prospect could help fill things out.
Scotto says that Knicks management is considering converting the two-way contract of NBA G League standout DaQuan Jeffries into a standard one, which would offer a return to the major Association for the leading scorer amongst full-time New York prospects from Westchester (18.0-point average over 15 games). Jeffries has 47 games of NBA experience under his belt since entering the league during the 2019-20 season including three appearances with Memphis last season.
Previous New York experience for Jeffries includes the most recent edition of Summer League play, one that saw him average 8.2 points and 4.2 rebounds in relief as the Knicks' youngsters mustered a runner-up finish in Las Vegas. It was enough to earn Jeffries an invite to Knicks training camp but a concussion kept him out of most activities including all preseason games. Head coach Tom Thibodeau nonetheless declared that he "believe(d)" Jeffries was "an NBA player," leading to his two-way deal shortly after.
For the time being, the Knicks seem dedicated to the nine-man rotation that has gotten them through the last two months of play, with Hart stepping in over Miles McBride. New York has gone 23-14 since Thibodeau publicly professed loyalty to his current nine-man set, one that forced Reddish into a de facto exile and set the stage for the Hart deal.
Westchester (8-11) is currently playing its home games in Bridgeport, CT. The Knicks' G League group returns to action on Feb. 24 against Fort Wayne, an Indiana affiliate (7 p.m. ET, NBAGLeague.com).
