Post Anunoby, Knicks Have 'Interest' In Karl-Anthony Towns Trade

The New York Knicks have made their presence known on the trade market after acquiring Toronto Raptors forward OG Anunoby over the weekend. However, there's reason to believe that the Anunoby deal (which also acquired Precious Achiuwa and Malachi Flynn) won't be their final move before February's deadline.

New York has long been rumored as a landing spot for Minnesota Timberwolves star Karl-Anthony Towns should he be traded. Shams Charania of The Athletic confirmed that the team is still interested in him.

"They (Knicks) are always going to have interest in Karl Anthony-Towns," Charania said. "But nothing has materialized as of yet."

Charania lauded the Knicks' cumulation of assets and stressed that the Knicks could look for a "playmaker" if and when they're ready to make another deal. He was particularly intrigued about the future of third-year man Quentin Grimes, who began the year in the starting lineup but has since taken on a role on the bench.

Towns' Timberwolves currently hold the West's best record at 24-8 and appear to be a buyer if they can maintain a top spot among the league's contenders That renders the idea of trading their franchise face, at least for the time being, all but null.

While the Knicks traded two of their top trade pieces in Immanuel Quickley and RJ Barrett in the Anunoby deal, the team still has some intriguing options in Grimes, Mitchell Robinson, and eight future first-round picks with varying layers of protection.

Towns is averaging 21.4 points and 9.2 rebounds per game, and if the Wolves would be willing to trade him to the Knicks in the offseason, he could complete the puzzle that would feature Jalen Brunson, Julius Randle, and Anunoby (who could become a free agent in the offseason).

The Knicks (18-15) are back in action on Wednesday against the Chicago Bulls (8:30 p.m. ET, MSG/ABC).
