The Los Angeles Lakers did all they could to try and trade for NBA superstar Kyrie Irving prior to this year's trade deadline. They ended up coming up short in the process, and Kyrie landed with the Dallas Mavericks. Fast forward to today, and a lot has happened.

The Lakers are in the play-in/playoff mix, while the Mavericks are on a downward spiral and on the outside looking in the play-in picture. The talks of Irving potentially coming to LA this summer to join Anthony Davis and former teammate LeBron James have died out due to LA's success with their newly constructed roster.

However, former teammate of both James and Irving, Tristan Thompson, believes that the door has not shut. Thompson went on Draymond Green's podcast and said he's not counting out a LeBron-Kyrie reunion.

In the minute-long video above, Thompson mentions Irving and James have unfinished business together. The two were teammates for three seasons and went to three straight finals together. It was routine for James to make the finals, while for Kyrie, this was the first taste of success he's had in the league, and never looked better.

The duo was phenomenal to witness, and we're very successful together; however, LA may be up to something with their current roster. Irving will be an unrestricted free agent this summer, but is it worth LA going after him? LA could do themselves a favor and bring this team back for an entire season and see if this could be something special.

Since the trade deadline, the Purple and Gold have a 13-8 record, and still, they missed James in the majority of those games. We've seen what depth and a healthy James and Davis looked like in their championship year. James and Davis are older, so could we look at the same results, or could their bodies deteriorate throughout the course of another long season?

Bill Simmons of The Ringer also recently postulated that a James-Irving reunion could be in the cards, albeit with Irving's current club, the Dallas Mavericks, and not the Lakers.

I still choose depth over a big three, considering where the Lakers are at. The team looks good, and we need to see what an entire season of this team looks like. Sorry Tristan, but I like what the Lakers have, and we must see it play out after this season.
