Lakers News: Trae Young Attends Latest Mamba & Mambacita Sports Foundation Court Unveiling

The Atlanta guard was on hand for the big day.

After Kobe Bryant, his daugher Gigi Bryant, and seven others lives were tragically cut short in January 2020, the Mamba & Mambacita Sports Foundation was established both as a tribute to the Lakers legend and his daughter, as well as a way to keep their legacies alive.

Part of the foundation's work is creating new basketball courts in different communities.

Their latest court was unveiled in Los Angeles on Friday, and many star studded guests were on hand for the festivities.

Atlanta Hawks star point guard Trae Young and USC and Los Angeles Sparks legend Lisa Leslie were there, and Young commented on how unveiling a court like this is important and that having courts available to play on helped him reach the heights he has today.

“There aren’t many courts around the country like this, so to be able to have one out here is really special," Young said. "I think this is important. And for me it’s important because this is what I needed when I was a kid, what got me to where I am today. And I needed older people to help me and put me in certain situations, and put me on certain courts to be at, and I think this is just what Body Armor and the whole team is doing.”

The new court was unveiled as part of a partnership between the Body Armor sports drink and the foundation, and it's great to see courts like that continue to be established in Kobe and Gigi's memory -- and to have basketball luminaries commemorate the moment.

Away from the unveiling, Young has been the subject of trade rumors in recent seasons, and he may be a target for the Lakers in the near future, especially if current Lakers starting point guard D'Angelo Russell leaves in free agency this summer.
