Lakers News: After Warriors Interviews, Dwight Howard Moves On To Next Audition Step

Could we see the former Lakers center in the Bay Area?

Former Los Angeles Lakers center Dwight Howard has been making headlines of late. He is trying to pitch himself to be included in the Paris Olympics next summer, and he recently took a workout with the Golden State Warriors to try and return to the NBA.

Apparently, the workout went well, and he has the approval of the Warriors veteran players. But there is still no guarantee that he will be signed to a contract.

Kendra Andrews of ESPN has reported that Howard was just another workout for Golden State and that they are weighing their options.

"While this has brought up a lot of conversation externally I'm told that the Warriors are looking at this just as another workout, just another guy they are bringing in to get a look at," Andrews said

Per Bleacher Report

However, if veterans like Steph Curry, Draymond Green and Klay Thompson are all good with them bringing in Howard, it is likely to happen.

Howard last played in the NBA during the 2021-2022 season, as a member of the Los Angeles Lakers. He was used mainly as a depth piece for them and never looked the same as in his previous stint with the team. He averaged 6.2 points and 5.9 rebounds per game with LA during that time.

Since leaving the NBA, he has spent time in Taiwan, playing in Taiwan's T1 league. But he has expressed much desire to return to the league, and he just wants a chance to prove himself.

While he wouldn’t be a game-changing signing, the Warriors could use Howard for added size advantage. He can still rebound the ball well, and entering into a winning situation could rejuvenate the former All-Star big man.

If the Warriors do end up signing Howard, it would likely be on a non-guaranteed deal. It gives them flexibility, while also making sure that he can be a productive member of the team.

Hopefully, we get to see Howard back in the league soon. While it may hurt to see him wearing a Golden State jersey, he deserves to go out in a good situation, and the Lakers weren’t in a good place the last time he was in the league.
