Shortly after Bleacher Report's Chris Haynes broke the news that the Phoenix Suns would be waiving guard Chris Paul, many started wondering where the veteran point guard would go. Naturally, the Lakers came up consistently in discussion. The two have been linked together since 2011, when the NBA vetoed a deal that would have sent the All-Star to LA. Now, with Paul becoming a free agent, Los Angeles is getting brought up once again.

Like many people, Dan Favale of Bleacher Report has listed the Lakers as a top potential landing spot for Paul. The pairing makes too much sense as the Lakers have a need for a point guard and Paul has a need for a possible new team.

Additionally, the draw of coming to play with his good friend in LeBron James could help get the Lakers over the line. If the team is interested of course. Paul will be 38 when next season kicks off so ideally, he isn't exactly what the Lakers may want.

However, if the team can get his services for a low value contract, they absolutely should. Paul would be an upgrade at the position and even in his advanced age, he can still help a team out.

The biggest concern with Paul is his injury history. For an aging point guard, he has missed quite a bit of time of late. For a Lakers team that already deals with injuries to their star players, it could be a sign for caution. But if Paul were able to stagger his minutes and remain healthy for a playoff run, it could be special.

He should have no issues playing alongside James and Anthony Davis due to his overall game. Paul can shoot, pass and play off ball when needed. Additionally, the pick and roll offense with Davis would be a thing of beauty.

If Los Angeles is able to get Paul for cheap, it could end up being the steal of the summer. Maybe all these years later, Paul finally ends up in LA. And of course, it'll be because of basketball reasons.
