Dennis Smith Jr. 'Put They A** in The Dirt!' Mavs Embarrassed Again by Hornets

The Dallas Mavericks, by the numbers, suffered the worst upset in the NBA this season against the Charlotte Hornets on Friday night. They didn't bounce back against those same Hornets on Sunday afternoon.

The Dallas Mavericks have been on the wrong end of history all season, and that remained the case in Friday’s inexplicable, “dog s***” loss to the Charlotte Hornets.

"Inexplicable,'' except ... on Sunday at Charlotte, it happened again, this time in a 110-104 loss that represents "a new low,'' as we write here.

Below, a breakdown of items going into the game and coming out. But first, a simple NSFW summary from Dennis Smith Jr. - the dumped-on Mavs ex who surely enjoyed the double-header revenge.

The pregame Hornets pledged, he said of the Mavs, to "put they ass in the dirt.''

And "in the dirt'' they are.

Looking back ...

The Mavs came into that Friday game as 16-point favorites, but the Hornets, fueled by a Smith Jr. dagger ended up winning 117-109 despite being on the road, on the second night of a back-to-back, and missing several key players. It was the biggest upset in the NBA this season based on pregame betting odds.

With Dallas set to take on Charlotte for the second time in three days, oddsmakers had apparently learned their lesson … well, sort of … as the Mavs are just 11-point favorites this time around. That still seemed way too generous for Dallas, but perhaps oddsmakers were banking on the Mavs actually showing some pride on Sunday.

That, they did not do.

Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving would play consecutive games together after playing tag with injuries over the last two weeks. Both looked to bounce back from horrendous shooting performances from deep on Friday, where they combined to go 3-17. .. and Luka scored 40 here.

But the Mavs are now 36-39 and hovering around 11th place - and worse, sort of acting as if they don't really care. And so ... probably, into the dirt they go.
