In this story:

The Brooklyn Nets currently boast two All-Star caliber players — Michael Porter Jr. and Julius Randle.

However, neither are going to be the face of a legitimate championship contending team, and both are around the age of 30.

With that said, a young player is going to have to emerge as the Nets' future face of the franchise. This current Nets team has two players capable of holding that title — Egor Dëmin and Mikel Brown Jr.

Given that Brown has yet to play a second on an NBA floor, Dëmin is seen as the safest pick to be the Nets' best player in the next three years, Bleacher Report's Grant Hughes writes.

"Brown is too much of a mystery to make him a responsible pick, while Dëmin shot 38.5 percent from deep last season and showed all the connective passing Brooklyn hoped for," Hughes wrote. "A Summer League performance that saw Dëmin flash rapidly developing on-ball skills and scoring chops inside the arc puts him over the top.

"The Nets have loads of young candidates who might only be a breakout away from changing this prediction. Ben Saraf, Nolan Traoré and Noah Clowney have all had their moments, and Clowney is the oldest of the group at just 22."

Dëmin showed incredibly improved athleticism during Summer League, throwing down and alley-oop slam and windmill.

To Hughes' point, he also looked incredibly more comfortable operating with the ball in his hands, especially in the painted area, targeting smaller defenders on post moves and attacking the basket with a lot more conviction.

Dëmin needs to prove that he can do that against more established NBA defenders, especially those who make it tough on the perimeter and at the rim.

There have been countless Summer League superstars who didn't quite pan out at the next level.

Kevin Knox was named to the All-NBA Summer League First Team in 2018 after a standout stretch of games, but unfortunately, he wasn't able to carry it to the next level.

With Dëmin, though, his stroke from downtown is smooth as butter. Even if his on-ball skills don't translate well enough for him to become a superstar, his offball 3-point shooting and connective playmaking should still make him a problem at either shooting guard or the wing position.

For the Nets to shock the world next season, however, Dëmin will need to take a considerable leap in his game.
