Nuggets Broadcaster Reacts to Backlash Over 'Lakers Daddy' Comments

In this story:
When introducing head coach Michael Malone at the championship parade, Denver Nuggets broadcaster Vic Lombardi called him the Lakers' daddy:
"He came into this world as the son of a coach, but in these playoffs, he became the Lakers daddy!"

Unsurprisingly, Lakers fans were upset over the comment, calling out Lombardi and the Nuggets for thinking about the Lakers during their own championship parade. With his Twitter mentions flooded with Lakers fans, Lombardi reacted to this backlash, doubling down on his parade message:
I just arrived at my twitter feed today and I can’t tell you how proud this Denver kid is to see the the Lakers fans all up in their feels.

Consider it a compliment.
The Lakers have served as a Nuggets dead end for years.
Not this year.
Accept your pain
Lombardi also called out ESPN for dedicating a whole segment to the Lakers and his comment, saying that's what they're used to, as they always focus on the Lakers any chance they get:
Hahahahaha.

The ONLY reason @espn led their show with that is because I mentioned the word "Lakers".
And when ESPN hears the word "Lakers", their pavlov reaction is to devote half their show talking about the Lakers.
We've seen this story before.
Too predictable. https://t.co/gGW0OEumhd
While the backlash from Lombardi's comment has primarily been about his interest in mentioning the Lakers when that's not even who Denver faced in the NBA Finals, this is not a new thing. The Golden State Warriors took several shots at the Memphis Grizzlies last season when they won the championship, and Memphis is a team they saw even earlier than Denver saw LA, defeating them in last year's Western Conference Semi-Finals series.
While Lakers fans are upset with Lombardi's comment, the Nuggets broadcaster is not worried about them, and has instead doubled down on Twitter. For the NBA champion Nuggets, nobody can get in the way of their celebration. Having swept the Lakers, Denver earned the bragging rights over their Western Conference Finals opponent for this summer.
