Indiana Pacers guard Buddy Hield says he'd love to see Los Angeles Clippers guard Russell Westbrook win a championship

Hield played at The University of Oklahoma while Westbrook played for Oklahoma City

Indiana Pacers sharpshooter Buddy Hield said that he would love to see Los Angeles Clippers guard Russell Westbrook hoist the Larry O'Brien Trophy.

In The Athletic's NBA player poll conducted at NBA All-Star weekend, various NBA players were asked which guy they want to see win a ring. Buddy Hield was among the participants in the survey, and he named Westbrook.

"Westbrook. Good dude, man. Lotta people give him a lot of crap. He’s a Hall of Famer. He doesn’t get the credit he deserves," Hield said in his response to the poll. "A great dude and you can hear the way his teammates talk about him. The way the media portrays him isn’t accurate."

Westbrook is a nine-time All-Star and the 2017 MVP, but he has never won a title. He has reached the conference finals four times and NBA Finals once but has never reached the summit.

Hield and Westbrook have never been teammates, but there is clearly some respect between the two. Westbrook played for the Oklahoma City Thunder during all four of Hield's seasons at The University of Oklahoma.

Pacers All-Star guard Tyrese Haliburton also answered the survey question, and he chose Chris Paul, a veteran he grew up watching. Paul and Haliburton play the same position and are among the NBA's best passers. Former Pacer Domantas Sabonis chose Jonas Valanciunas, a fellow Lithuanian, in the survey.

Former Pacers guard Aaron Holiday received a vote from his brother, Jrue. Aaron is the only Holiday brother without a title — Jrue won a ring with the Bucks in 2021 and Justin Holiday, another former Pacer, lifted the trophy with the Warriors in 2015.
