Indiana Pacers 2023-24 preseason schedule: Pacers play four games, two at home

AllPacers has learned the Pacers 2023-24 preseason schedule

The NBA schedule for the 2023-24 season has not been revealed yet, but AllPacers has learned the Indiana Pacers preseason schedule for the coming season.

According to a league source, the blue and gold will play four preseason games this year, with the first one coming on October 8 in Memphis against the Grizzlies. In total, the Pacers exhibitions will span 12 days, and they can be seen below.

Sunday, October 8: at Memphis Grizzlies

Tuesday, October 10: at Houston Rockets

Monday, October 16: vs Atlanta Hawks

Friday, October 20: vs Cleveland Cavaliers

Both preseason games in Indiana are scheduled to tip-off at 7 p.m. Eastern Time.

The games in Houston and at home against Atlanta had both been previously announced by those two teams. Now, the full slate is known. The Pacers and Rockets also faced off in the preseason last year.

Last year, Indiana went 2-2 in the preseason, and while the games were tune-ups, they were a sign of things to come. Bennedict Mathurin, who ended up making the All-Rookie First-Team, dropped in 27 points against the Knicks in a preseason game last year. Andrew Nembhard, who started several times for the franchise as a rookie, had 16 assists in the team's final two preseason outings in 2022. Aaron Nesmith started off the exhibitions with a 16-point performance, and he had a career year last season. Preseason games can be valuable for certain players.

Indiana will get four of them again this year. Some teams play five, and the Pacers themselves only played three in 2020, but it's a quartet of exhibitions for the blue and gold this season.

The NBA's calendar has been pushed back for 2023-24. Last year, training camps opened as early as September 27, and a few teams played their first preseason games on September 30. This year, the teams playing in overseas preseason games can begin camp on September 27, but most squads can't open up training camp until October 3. The first preseason game league wide isn't until October 5.

Last season, opening night for the regular season was October 18. This year, the Pacers have a preseason game after that date. Instead, the NBA regular season begins on October 24 this year, though the Pacers first game will likely be on a later date.

Rosters must be set for opening night on Monday, October 23, so the Pacers will have a few days after their final preseason outing to finalize their roster and make choices. As things stand, though, roster decisions should be fairly straightforward in Indiana unless a currently unsigned player has an excellent camp or preseason.

There are 55 days until Pacers basketball returns and the 2023-24 roster hits the court for preseason play. Eight days after that, fans in Indianapolis can get an in-person look at the squad and some of its new players, including Obi Toppin, Bruce Brown, Jarace Walker, and Ben Sheppard. The latter two players are both rookies, so their play during the preseason will be important to monitor.

The Pacers will play basketball again in less than eight weeks.
