On Monday afternoon, New Orleans' newest star, Pelicans guard CJ McCollum, was dishing an assist to the New Orleans Saints. Cleveland announced the release of wide receiver Jarvis Landry after three seasons with the Browns.

McCollum is from Canton, Ohio, and grew up a Cleveland Browns fan. He tweeted a message to Jarvis Landry, "Loved you on my @Browns Brotha @God_Son80. I know you a southern fellow. Why not come south to the @Saints I'll be at some games this year." Makes sense!

Landry is from Louisiana and played high school football for Lutcher in St. James parish. The wide receiver became a star player at LSU with his buddy and former teammate Odell Beckham Jr.

I recall Landry mentioning once he grew up rooting for the Saints as a youngster in Southern Louisiana.

New Orleans could use a valuable slot receiver with the speed and exceptional catching ability of Jarvis Landry. He would be an excellent complement to Michael Thomas, who will return to action after an injury-plagued two seasons with New Orleans.

The Miami Dolphins selected Landry with the 63rd overall selection in the third round of the 2014 NFL Draft. In his eight-year NFL career, he has 688 receptions for 7,598 receiving yards, 37 receiving touchdowns, 233 rushing yards, and five rushing touchdowns. Landry's 564 career receptions are the most by a player through his first six seasons in NFL history.

New Orleans must restructure several additional contracts before the NFL free agency period begins on March 16. McCollum's recruiting pitch may not be a far-fetched idea for Mickey Loomis to explore. He has the reputation of having a great work ethic and could be an option for the Saints to pursue in free agency.
