Preseason Preview: Detroit Pistons vs. Memphis Grizzlies

Final Preseason action as the Pistons take on Ja Morant and the Grizz in Mo-town.

Following a 99-115 loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder on Tuesday, the Pistons will enter their final preseason game with a disheartening 0-3 record. It has been rough thus far, and though there have been some bright spots, the loss of Marvin Bagley, increased turnovers, and sloppy shooting have been the demise of this young squad's preseason play. Ja Morant needs no introduction; he will be a problem on offense, and neutralizing this offensive juggernaut will be the primary defensive game plan. Desmond Bane is also coming off of an incredible 33-point performance. This matchup will test the defensive versatility, toughness, and improvement Dwyane Casey boasted over the offseason.

How To Watch:

When: 7:00 PM EST

Where: Little Caesars Arena

TV: Bally Sports Detroit, NBA TV

Is Killian Hayes Coming Around?

Killian is turning heads all across the Pistons fanbase. He has played with confidence and poise, seemingly finding his place as a defensive menace and anchor off the bench. In his last appearance, he scored 20 points with four three-balls. His comfortability stepping back and launching from deep significantly opens up his offensive game. Defenses will need to respect his shot, allowing more manageable and aggressive runs to the rim. This also opens up more playmaking opportunities - which is already his top trait. This matchup will determine how well he can hold up against a preeminent offensive threat. He can also leverage his playing time to expand his role further and end the Killian slander by riding his recent success and assertiveness.

Cade and Ivey's Rapport

Cade's production has gone down since the incredible finish of his rookie season. Despite his growth over the summer, his turnovers continue to cripple this lifeless offense. The balanced backcourt, however, has been exciting to watch. Ivey brings sparks of energy through his explosive tendencies, while Cade has retracted to a mellow game manager. Their chemistry will develop over time, although we have seen flashes on both sides of the ball. Offensively, Cade has found Ivey on shifty back-door cuts while utilizing his upper body strength for second-chance points and contested finished. On defense, the two shared a breathtaking moment, contesting and snatch-blocking OKC's Tre Mann. This duo will continue to develop into a feared backcourt in the NBA as the season progresses.

Marvin Bagley's Absence:

Bagley went down with an apparent right knee injury in the previous matchup. Luckily, the freshly extended center will not miss much time recovering as the season will commence shortly. However, this injury opens the floor up for rising players such as Jalen Duren to gain valuable playing time and experience. Despite some growing pains during his transition to the NBA, he will quickly learn the ins and outs of playing amongst the league's premier talent. Alongside Isaiah Stewart's stretch four experimentations, Dwayne Casey will have tremendous freedom to explore various lineups with the young talent that Troy Weaver has accumulated over the years.
