In this story:

The Houston Rockets deserve a lot of credit for going from a 22-win team to having a chance to finish over .500 by the end of the year in just one season.

There are many reasons behind the team's success. Ime Udoka's presence and culture shift, Jalen Green and Alperen Sengun's growth in their third professional seasons, and the addition of a true point guard in Fred VanVleet.

Bleacher Report believes the latter deserves the official title for team MVP this season.

"Several factors contributed to the Houston Rockets re-emerging as a competitive franchise after three straight years in the cellar, but VanVleet's arrival in free agency might have been the most significant," Bleacher Report writes.

"In addition to bringing toughness, tenacious defense and badly needed adult-in-the-room energy, VanVleet is on pace to post a higher true shooting percentage and lower turnover rate than he did in his All-Star season of 2021-22. The 30-year-old's diminished shooting frequency was part of a pass-happier profile that'll see FVV put up an assist percentage over 30.0 for the first time ever while comfortably leading the Rockets at 8.1 assists per game."

A lot of players have contributed towards the team's improvement, but VanVleet gets this award because he not only provides his talents, but he has made others around him better, which is exactly why the Rockets brought him to Houston in free agency this past summer.

VanVleet and the Rockets are back in action on Tuesday as the Orlando Magic comes to town. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. CT.
