NBA Rumors: LeBron Joining Wembanyama & Spurs, Creating Chosen Ones Duo?

With projected San Antonio Spurs superstar Victor Wembanyama expecting to contend for a title soon, could the franchise pursue Los Angeles Laker LeBron James?

Future San Antonio Spurs big man, Victor Wembanyama, is the most highly anticipated prospect since franchise rival LeBron James, but there’s a possibility the two could play together, forming a duo of "Chosen Ones."

“I’m trying to win a ring ASAP, so be ready,” Wembanyama said after the Spurs won the lottery.

And what faster way to accelerate San Antonio’s rebuild than by signing King James?

LeBron is 38 years old, and his Los Angeles Lakers are currently down 0-3 in the Western Conference Finals, but Father Time seemingly roots for James to succeed.

This season the 19-time All-Star averaged 28.9 points, 8.3 rebounds, and 6.8 assists. His career averages are 27.2 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 7.3 assists. To summarize his longevity…the old man continues to perform up to his historically unparalleled standard.

Despite the Spurs’ storied rivalry against LeBron, which features three finals matchups and two Spurs victories (three had Ray Allen missed the shot). It’s hard to deny that anyone could mentor Wembanyama better than the only man to face equally insurmountable expectations entering the league.

Although often scrutinized for changing teams three times, LeBron must also be credited as a winner; since he's the only player to win Finals MVP for three franchises, why not make it four by teaming up with Wembanyama?

While some may question whether or not LeBron will continue playing at age 40 (when he has a player option in his contract to leave the Lakers), he’s been very open about his desire to play with his son LeBron (Bronny) James Jr.

Bronny will play his freshman basketball season at USC next year and afterward is projected to be a first-round pick sometime in the late lottery. The expectation is that his father will follow him so they can share the court alongside each other as teammates, reminiscent of the feat Ken Griffey Jr. and Sr. accomplished in the MLB.

Luckily for the Spurs organization, that nostalgic sentiment from the future first-ballot Hall of Famer aligns perfectly with their rebuild as they hold what James Sr. would say is “not one, not two…” but three first-round picks in 2024, making the acquisition of Bronny as simple as writing his name on a draft card.

With reports that San Antonio’s entire Hall of Fame Big Three (Tony Parker, Manu Ginobli, and Tim Duncan) is participating in Wembanyama rookie season development, by his second year, he and the rest of the young Spurs could be ready to contend in the playoffs potentially with the father-son James pair.
