Spurs Get Blown Out By Steph Curry's Warriors in Alamodome Return

In celebration of their 50th anniversary season, the San Antonio Spurs returned to the Alamodome in what was a blowout loss to the Golden State Warriors.

The San Antonio Spurs (13-30) took on Stephen Curry and the Golden State Warriors (21-21) in their return to the Alamodome in celebration of their 50th anniversary season. The result was a 144-113 win for the Dubs.

In front of a record 68,323 fans in the crowd, it was a unique experience for today's NBA players to participate in such a game. The Warriors were led by Jordan Poole's 25 points, with Donte DiVincenzo chipping in 22 of his own.

“It was pretty electric, a really special occasion playing in front of the largest crowd in NBA history,” Poole said. “I’m glad we got the win.”

In what has become a season of moral victories as opposed to actual competition in meaningful basketball games, the Spurs appreciated the opportunity to play in front of such a large crowd to celebrate their franchise's history.

“Obviously, I hate to lose. But with the turnout, how can you be mad?” Spurs forward Keldon Johnson said. “The Spurs fanbase surpassed anything we could imagine. That made tonight special.”

The Spurs faced a five-point deficit at the end of the first quarter, but it continued to worsen as the game progressed. They allowed the Warriors to score 40 or more points over the second and third periods and trailed by 30 at the end of the third quarter. The outcome was long determined before the end of regulation.

“The fans enjoyed themselves, even though we were getting our [butts] kicked,” Popovich said. “They seemed to be having a hell of a time, so there must have been a lot of beer sales out there.”

The Spurs return to action on Sunday when taking on the Sacramento Kings at AT&T Center.
