Victor Wembanyama on Spurs Landing No. 1 Pick: 'It's a No-Brainer'

In this story:
Sometimes it's luck, sometimes its good grace and sometimes it's just meant to be.
The latter seems true with every different "fit analysis" that's been made regarding generational prospect Victor Wembanyama and the San Antonio Spurs. Whether it's his fit with the city and its culture, the skillset he brings on the court or the legacy ties to the team, Wembanyama was destined to be a Spur.
In fact, he even has a picture in a Spurs jersey long before he came the "best prospect since LeBron James".

As the draft draws closer, Wembanyama has taken to the media and made his rounds around New York in preparation, recently appearing on The Old Man And The Three podcast, where he only confirmed his excitement to join coach Gregg Popovich and the Spurs:
"If I had to choose one franchise to get the number one pick I would've chosen San Antonio," Wembanyama said. "It would be a no-brainer."
Luckily for the Spurs, Wembanyama doesn't have to pick — or get to, for that matter — but it worked out anyway. And in just a few months, he'll take the court for the Silver & Black, looking to begin a Hall-of-Fame career and win a title in a city that's gone nearly 10 years without one.
The 2023 NBA Draft is set for Thursday at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn. Coverage on ESPN will begin at 7 p.m. CST.
