Spurs Fiesta 5: Shaedon Sharpe 'High Upside' Best Option for San Antonio?

Inside The Spurs identifies five of the biggest NBA storylines in addition to relevant San Antonio Spurs news and analysis.

In this story:

1. NBA TRADE RUMORS LINK SHAEDON SHARPE TO SPURS

"So, if the Spurs trade for anything other than draft picks this offseason, they need to find up-and-comers with skyscraping ceilings," Bleacher Report writes. "That's the appeal of Shaedon Sharpe, whose game needs polish but keeps highlight reels spinning with his anti-gravity bounce."

A lot of dominoes need to fall in order to blaze the trail for Sharpe to come to the Spurs, but if it were to happen, San Antonio could grab a player with more upside than anyone currently on the roster.

2. SPURS STARTING LINEUP NEXT SEASON?

"Keldon Johnson, Jeremy Sochan and Devin Vassell should all be back," Bleacher Report writes. "But Tre Jones is a restricted free agent, and even if he's back, he's not assured a starting slot. The same goes for Zach Collins, who finished the year as San Antonio's starting center. The Spurs will likely have $35-plus million in cap space and ample reason to pursue upgrades at the 1 and 5 beyond the draft."

3. MALAKI BRANHAM RE-DRAFTED

"Branham's hot streak in February showed what his peak could look like. It took him a little while to get his feet wet in the NBA, not even showing up in Gregg Popovich's rotation to start the season. However, as the season rolled along, Branham came into his own and proved to be a key piece in the backcourt with the team.

"Give Branham a full offseason with the Spurs and he could grow even more. Perhaps when another 2022 re-draft is done after the class finishes its second year in the NBA, Branham will move higher from the No. 20 pick."

4. 76ERS VS. CELTICS GAME 7

"In what has been arguably the most back-and-forth series in the 2023 NBA playoffs, fans now get to enjoy a Game 7 between the Philadelphia 76ers and Boston Celtics. After the Celtics came back in Game 6, they now get to head back home to TD Garden for Sunday’s Game 7. The winner will advance to the Eastern Conference Finals, just four wins away from the eventual NBA Finals."

Game 7 tipoff between Philadelphia and Boston is set for 2:30 p.m.

5. NBA DRAFT LOTTERY COUNTDOWN

The Spurs remain tied for the highest percentage to win the first overall pick — at 14 percent — and will undoubtedly be looking to grab one of the top prospects of the last few decades in Victor Wembanyama. The only thing standing between them and the 7-2 center now is a ping pong ball with their logo on it.

The NBA Draft Lottery is now less than three days away, set for Tuesday, May 16 in Chicago at 7:00 p.m.
