Spurs Fiesta 5: NBA Mock Draft Projects Scoot Henderson 'Gamble' in San Antonio

Inside The Spurs identifies five of the biggest NBA storylines in addition to relevant San Antonio Spurs news and analysis.
Christopher Creveling-USA TODAY Sports

In this story:

1. SCOOT TO SPURS?

"Brandon Miller's rise this season combined with Henderson's stagnated development as a shooter makes this a tougher pick than it might've seemed a few months ago, but Henderson's still a gamble I'd take with joy," CBS Sports writes. "He's a fiery, swaggy competitor who has elite handles, major athletic pop and a creative mind that perfectly fits the NBA point guard position."

2. ZACH COLLINS AT RISK WITH LOTTO?

"Fortunately for San Antonio, coach Gregg Popovich and his team are full of youth. Eleven of the 17 rostered players are 23 years or younger, and all have years to grow into a well-rounded career in the league.

"That makes current starting center Zach Collins an outlier. Not just because of his age — at 25-years-old — but also because of his position."

3. KBD HONORED

"Bates-Diop is now up for the NBA's 2022-23 Bob Lanier Community Assist Award, given to players who have impacted their communities throughout the entire season."

4. JEREMY SOCHAN REDRAFT

"Outside of his shooting, Sochan remains everything teams look for in a high-level developmental prospect," The Athletic writes. "He has genuine size at 6-foot-9 with a massive wingspan, and he’s willing and able to take on tough on-ball defensive assignments in addition to playing strong help defense. Offensively, Sochan took the on-ball reps he was given this year and really blossomed. Over his last 17 games, he averaged almost 16 points, six rebounds and three assists while making good decisions and expanding his game."

5. NBA DRAFT LOTTERY COUNTDOWN

The Spurs are one days away from the NBA Draft Lottery, where it will be revealed if San Antonio will have the opportunity to take Victor Wembanyama with the No. 1 overall pick.
