Hawks' Trae Young Sparks Spurs Trade Rumors with Victor Wembanyama Comments

Victor Wembanyama and Trae Young could become San Antonio Spurs teammates if a trade materializes with the Atlanta Hawks.

The San Antonio Spurs are mentioned in trade rumors with the Atlanta Hawks for Trae Young, and the All-Star guard only fanned those flames when asked about Victor Wembanyama at All-Star Weekend.

“The kind of player that can help him win a championship, make his job easier," Young said when asked about who Wembanyama needed around him. "That’s the type of player he needs.”

Young answered the question with a smile, perhaps alluding to a future reunion between the two?

As one of two players in the NBA averaging double-digit assists, Young would probably really enjoy playing with a post player like Wembanyama, who is averaging 20.5 points and 10.0 rebounds per game with ease in his rookie season.

Adding a point guard and playmaker like Young would make the Spurs offense multi-dimensional, which is something they lack a lot of at the moment. Other than Wembanyama, the Spurs don't have many other threats to contain, making it easy for teams to double him in the post.

With Young in the offense alongside Wembanyama, the spacing would be very different and teams would not be able to double the potential Rookie of the Year that easily.

Trae Trade Idea: Spurs Make Blockbuster Deal with Hawks

There is concern surrounding Young's defense, which is subpar, but in a lineup featuring Wembanyama, Jeremy Sochan, and Devin Vassell, having a weak link who would lead the offense wouldn't end San Antonio's future title hopes.

If the Spurs can swing a deal for Young this summer and draft high-end players who complement the core, the Spurs could see a rapid turnaround as soon as next season.
