Suns GM James Jones Squashes Kevin Durant Rumors

With the 2022-23 season rapidly approaching, Phoenix Suns general manager James Jones made abundantly clear that adding Brooklyn Nets superstar power forward Kevin Durant was never a real possibility.

For the majority of the NBA offseason, Kevin Durant was rumored to be traded to a variety of teams, the Suns being on the top of that list. However, it seems the Suns were not as desperate to acquire the former MVP as some may have thought.

“It’s always a great topic of discussion, but the one thing people forget is that when you’re talking about trades, or any player acquisition, the team that has the player has to be willing to move the player,” Jones said to Arizona Republic's Duane Rankin.

“We had discussions with Brooklyn about their desires and what they were trying to do, but ultimately, I would say like most teams, there was nothing to it.”

Despite not trading for Durant, there is no need to panic in the Valley. The Suns are coming off the best two year stretch in franchise history.

The Suns are only just touching the service of what they can achieve as the core of Devin Booker, Deandre Ayton, Mikal Bridges and Cam Johnson are all 26-years-old or younger.

Durant may be a top three player on the entire planet, but the Suns already have a roster that has proven it can go toe to toe with the best teams.

Jones and the rest of the Sun's organization are ready to move on from these trade rumors and focus on the upcoming season.
