Gabriel 'Iffe' Lundberg Confirms Departure From Phoenix Suns

Fans of the Phoenix Suns were excited to cheer on guard Gabriel "Iffe" Lundberg after brief action for the team last season.

Yet when the Suns released their 2022 Summer League roster and Lundberg wasn't one of the nearly 20 names set to play in Las Vegas, suspicion about his future rose in Phoenix.

Late into the evening on Tuesday, he tweeted the following message out:

Just want to say thank you to all the @Suns fans who welcomed my family and I with open arms and made everything easier for us. I appreciate the opportunities that was given to me and it has only giving me more fuel and more motivation. I learned a lot 🙏🏼.

In a brief conversation with Inside The Suns, Lundberg confirmed he would not be returning to Phoenix while also acknowledging he had "multiple very good offers" overseas.

"I wanted to stay, but things just didn’t work out that way," said Lundberg.

Lundberg became the first Danish player to sign an NBA contract when the Suns inked him to a two-way deal back in March. He initially entered the 2016 NBA Draft but went undrafted.

He bounced around various leagues including top divisions in Spain, Poland and Russia before landing in the NBA.

Lundberg departed Russia after their invasion of Ukraine. He averaged 20.4 points, 3.8 rebounds, 5.4 assists and 1.4 steals per game in the VTB in 2020-21 and won Newcomer of the Year.

Lundberg appeared in four games for Phoenix this season. On March 10 against the Sacramento Kings, he scored a career-high ten points with five rebounds and five assists.

Lundberg favorited this tweet, which is translated to: "Unfortunately, Iffe did not get the guaranteed contract with Suns, which we had all hoped for ... but just try to check the comment track on Iffe's post. Suns fans love our Danish star!"
