Report: OKC Thunder Acquiring Patty Mills via Trade

Oklahoma City made yet another move on Saturday afternoon, acquiring Patty Mills from the Brooklyn Nets.

The Oklahoma City Thunder have been active during the offseason, making several trades in the last two weeks alone. The most recent of these trades was for Patty Mills, as first reported by ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski. He's reported that Oklahoma City is acquiring Brooklyn guard Patty Mills as part of a broader deal through Houston, and the Thunder will receive draft compensation to take on Mills’ $6.8 million expiring deal. Earlier in the week, the Australian guard was traded directly to the Rockets, but it appears that deal has grown.

A 34-year-old veteran, Mills has championship experience and is known as a sharpshooter. Last season he averaged 6.2 points per game while shooting 36.6% from deep. The season prior, he shot 40% on over seven attempts. When the Nets were contending for a championship, he was an extremely important part of the rotation.

It's still unclear exactly what the draft compensation for taking Mills on will be, as well as what his future holds in OKC or elsewhere. While he would certainly be a helpful piece for the Thunder, roster spots will be hard to come by. First the Victor Oladipo trade, and now this one. The Thunder have once again shown the willingness to take on salary attached to an asset.

As more details arise, we will report them here.
