The release of NBA 2K24 is just over a week away, and some of the Oklahoma City Thunder’s ratings have surfaced.

As part of 2K’s Community Day, it allowed certain content creators to check out the game early before its Sep. 8 release. Along with gameplay and other game features, some players’ ratings were leaked.

Although 2K’s Mike Stauffer, who is in charge of player ratings, tweeted that these ratings are subject to change, any changes between now and the game’s release are likely minimal. So far, the only Thunder ratings that have surfaced are the five projected starters: Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Josh Giddey, Luguentz Dort, Jalen Williams and Chet Holmgren.

The overall ratings of the Thunder’s starters:

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander: 93

Josh Giddey: 83

Luguentz Dort: 78

Jalen Williams: 82

Chet Holmgren: 77

As expected, Gilgeous-Alexander is the top-rated OKC player. The highest rating 2K gives out is 99, making Gilgeous-Alexander one of the highest-rated players in the entire game.

After averaging 31.4 points and earning a first-team all-NBA selection, Gilgeous-Alexander’s placement around the top of the league must have been an easy decision. However, the debate of who the second-best player is for the Thunder is far more interesting.

It appears 2K decided that Giddey was Gilgeous-Alexander’s best supporting cast member rather than Williams. Giddey having one more season of experience likely played into this decision. His international play for Australia may have also given him a slight boost.

However, with just one overall separating them, Williams has an opportunity to overtake Giddey at some point next season. Williams finished the 2022-23 season as runner-up in the Rookie of the Year race, with steady improvement as the season progressed. And with more versatility on both ends, it may only be a matter of time until Williams overtakes Giddey.

Finally, Dort and Holmgren come in as the two lowest-rated Thunder starters. But their situations are vastly different.

Dort’s rating at 78 is unlikely to fluctuate. His role as a defensive anchor is the clearest since his rookie season. As long as Dort can continue to play at an all-defensive level, his 2K rating may not change much for the rest of his career.

Holmgren, on the other hand, probably won’t be a 77 overall for long. The former second-overall pick is set to make his NBA debut next season and is expected to be near the front of the Rookie of the Year race.

As a seven-footer, Holmgren’s diverse offensive play style bodes well for him on the court and makes him perfect for a video game. Add his ability as a shot-blocker, and Holmgren could soon compete with Giddey and Williams for the Thunder’s second-best rating.

2K’s overall ratings seem to accurately represent the Thunder going into next season. In any case, the Thunder are bound to be a fun team to play with in NBA 2K24.
