Marcus Morris to Wolves? 'Good chance' but MN will 'evaluate all options'

Latest on Wolves' pursuit of veteran experience via the buyout market

Will Marcus Morris eventually land with the Timberwolves?

That's the possibility that Bucks guard Patrick Beverley, who played with Morris before both were traded by Philadelphia last Thursday, reported on Tuesday, saying Morris is "leaning towards" signing with the Timberwolves once his contract is bought out by the Spurs.

The Spurs have yet to conduct the contract buyout and until they do the Timberwolves can't do anything. But according to Wolves insider Jon Krawczynski, "nothing is imminent" but "there's a good chance" that Morris eventually winds up in Minnesota.

"What I can say is that what Pat Bev said is Marcus Morris is 'leaning toward' signing with the Timberwolves. I am 100% sure that Pat Bev has talked to Marcus Morris and Marcus Morris has told him that he likes the Timberwolves option for him when he gets bought out from the San Antonio Spurs, that they are attractive to him and that he might even being leaning toward them versus what other options are out there," Krawczynski said Tuesday on his podcast, The Jon Krawczynski Show

"From the people that I've talked to within the organization, I don't think any final decision has been made," he continued. "I was told that the Wolves will try and take the All-Star break to really evaluate all of their options on the buyout market and see what the best path forward is."

Players who are bought out and become free agents have to be signed by March 1 in order to be eligible to play in the postseason, so if something is going to happen with Morris and the Wolves it'll have to happen within the next two weeks or so.

"They definitely do have interest in Marcus Morris as a good spot-up catch-and-shoot guy from 3. He's a tough dude so you can see him fitting in in intense playoff environments sometimes," Krawczynski said. "I think that he would be a really nice addition from a shooting standout and a toughness standpoint for this team just to give them one more option should they need it down the stretch here and in the playoffs."

Minnesota, fresh off blowout road wins over the Bucks and Clippers, face the Trail Blazers in Portland on Tuesday night and Thursday night before hitting the All-Star break.

While Chris Finch and Minnesota's coaching staff will coach the West at the All-Star Game, and Karl-Anthony Towns (3-point shootout) and Anthony Edwards (skills competition) compete on All-Star Saturday Night, the rest of the team will get a full week to rest before the stretch run of the regular season begins Friday, Feb. 23 against Milwaukee.
