Ex-player Troy Vincent says he played with six openly gay teammates during his career

Former NFL defensive back Troy Vincent was recently hired by the league to serve as executive vice president of football operations, and he is hoping to crack down on the locker room issues that have been in the public eye following the situation in Miami with Richie Incognito and Jonathan Martin.

And with former Missouri defensive end Michael Sam poised to become the NFL's first openly gay player, there is some concern of how teams and players around the league will react.

Based on Vincent's past experiences, it shouldn't be a problem.

Vincent spent more than a decade in the NFL with the Miami Dolphins, Philadelphia Eagles, Buffalo Bills and Washington Redskins, and says that during his time in the NFL he had six teammates that were openly gay in the locker room, but not in the media.

“I’m not going to share their names, but in my 15 years, there were six individuals who were at least openly gay in the locker room,” Vincent said, via Hal Habib of the Palm Beach Post.

“No problem. From my days in Miami until I ended in Washington, they were just my teammates. Just like my family members ... We ate together, we flew together, they’re roommates in hotel rooms. It was what it was.”

If teams can adapt like Vincent's former teams were able to, there shouldn't be any issues in the locker room.
