NFL odds: Manning, Broncos favored against Colts; more Week 1 lines

Peyton Manning couldn't beat the Colts when he went up against his former team for the first time last season in Indianapolis, but he'll get another shot at them in Week 1 as a substantial home favorite.

The Denver Broncos have crept up to nine-point favorites (at sports books monitored by OddsShark.com) over the Colts for their matchup on Sunday Night Football. Indianapolis beat Denver 39-33 as a 6.5-point home underdog when the two teams met last October, a game that turned out to be an easy over result for totals bettors.

And while the Broncos are giving up a lot of points Sunday, the biggest favorite on the Week 1 slate is the Philadelphia Eagles -- who are 11.5-point favorites at home against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Philadelphia has been favored by double-digit points at home four times since 2009 and has failed to cover the spread in any of those contests.

Two other teams are giving up a touchdown on their Week 1 NFL betting lines early in the week, with the Pittsburgh Steelers giving seven points at home against the division-rival Browns and the Chicago Bears giving seven at home against the Bills.

For the season-opener on Thursday Night Football, the Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks are favored by five points at home against the Green Bay Packers.

The New England Patriots are one of three teams favored on the road entering the week, laying five points in Miami against the Dolphins. Miami is just 3-7-1 against the spread in its past 11 season openers. The Atlanta Falcons are also 2.5-point home underdogs against the New Orleans Saints, while the Dallas Cowboys are 4.5-point home underdogs against the San Francisco 49ers. The Niners have been money in the bank as road favorites in recent years.

The other early-week lines for Sunday afternoon's slate are Minnesota at St. Louis (-4), Oakland at the Jets (-5), Cincinnati at Baltimore (pick 'em), Washington at Houston (-2.5), Tennessee at Kansas City (-3.5), and Carolina at Tampa Bay (pick'em).

For Monday night's doubleheader, the Giants are five-point underdogs in Detroit, and the Chargers are three-point underdogs in Arizona.
