NFL Week 6 odds: Seahawks favored at home over undefeated Panthers

The Panthers enter Week 6 undefeated, but they’re road underdogs for Sunday’s game at the Seahawks.

The Carolina Panthers will take on the Seahawks in Seattle in Week 6 NFL action on Sunday afternoon, and prior to the season not many people would have imagined that the Panthers would be the undefeated team in this contest.

Seattle, favored on Sunday at the sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com, headed into the season with high expectations, but after a disappointing stretch of games the Seahawks sit below .500 while the Panthers are a perfect 4–0 straight up.

It’s hard to gauge exactly how good the Panthers are, or whether they’re even a good football team at all. Carolina’s four victories have come against the Jaguars, Texans, Saints and Bucs, teams with a combined 5–15 record.

The Panthers’ two games on the road have both resulted in double-digit victories, but it’s safe to say that visits to Jacksonville and Tampa Bay—two teams with a minimal home-field advantage—are completely different than a visit to Seattle.

It would appear that Carolina has a situational edge here, coming off its bye week, but the Panthers are 0–4 straight up and against the spread in their last four games after the bye according to the OddsShark NFL Database.

What Legion of Boom? Seahawks' defense is no longer intimidating

The Seahawks are coming off a major collapse in Cincinnati last week, and it’s possible that they might have trouble getting up for this game. With that being said, the Seahawks are 9–1 SU in their last 10 games at home and are capable of pulling out home victories even when they don’t play well (see Week 4 vs. Detroit).

Seattle’s defense has been much improved since the return of Kam Chancellor from his holdout, and it’s only allowed a total of 10 points at home in two games this year.

These teams have met quite a bit over the past few seasons, and Seattle has dominated this matchup. The Seahawks are 5–0 SU in their last five games against the Panthers, including a 31–17 victory in last year’s playoffs.

The Seahawks were 13.5-point favorites in that contest, but they’re currently only seven-point betting favorites at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com for Sunday.

From that perspective, Seattle seems to hold a bit of line value, and since we really don’t know much about the Panthers yet, we’re inclined to side with the home squad in what could be a great matchup to get back on track.
