Chase Claypool Now Off PUP

A day after the Bears put Chase Claypool on the physically unable to perform list, they removed him from it.

Never mind.

A day after putting Chase Claypool on the physically unable to perform list, the Bears removed him from it.

There was no explanation given, but Bears GM Ryan Poles is slated to meet with media on Tuesday when players report to Halas Hall and more will be known then about the curious injury situation.

Claypool worked out with other Bears a week and a half ago in Florida after he had missed three weeks of spring practices with soft tissue injuries.

In the meantime, the Bears are signing another wide receiver, according to a report by Jordan Schultz of "the Schultz Report."

They are bringing in Isaiah Ford, the former Miami Dolphins receiver, after he had a workout Monday morning. The reported signing came a day after the team announced Claypool would start training camp on the physically unable to perform list.

Ford was a seventh-round pick by the Miami Dolphins, 237th overall, in the 2017 draft.

The former Virginia Tech receiver is 6-foot-2, 194 pounds and is 27 years old. Ford has made 63 NFL receptions for 681 yards with two touchdowns. Both of the touchdowns came in 2021 when he last played in an NFL game.

Ford suffered a season-ending knee injury in training camp as a rookie and spent all year on IR, so he played from 2018-21.

The Colts picked up Ford last year but they released him in the middle of August well before the start of the season.

The health status of receiver Darnell Mooney will be cleared up Tuesday as well. It was expected he'd be ready but there has been no official announcement about it. He sat out all off-season work after he underwent "tightrope" surgery to strengthen the lower leg and ankle after a season-ending injury last year. However, he has been able to practice extensively with quarterback Justin Fields without problem.

Besides Carter, the Bears on Monday also worked out former Rams tight end Roger Carter Jr. and former Falcons/Titans/Lion/ Rams tight end Jared Pinkney.

They have three veteran tight ends on the roster, Robert Tonyan and Stephen Carlson after starter Cole Kmet. They also have 2022 reserves Chase Allen and Jake Tonges.
