Bears DBs Gradually Getting Back to Health

The Bears didn't rush injured DBs Kyler Gordon, Eddie Jackson and Jaylon Johnson back onto the practice field but they did enough to indicate they could return Sunday.

The Bears are getting healthier in their secondary, though not entirely or all at once.

It's a gradual sort of thing, but cornerback Kyler Gordon, safety Eddie Jackson and cornerback Jaylon Johnson all practiced on Wednesday coming off injuries and appear headed for playing time this week. They just had limited practices on Wednesday, though.

Johnson is coming off a hamstring injury, Jackson a foot injury and Gordon a broken hand.

Also a few other players who have new injuries had limited practices in cornerback Terell Smith (ankle) and tight end Cole Kmet (hamstring).

The only new injury leading to a player missing practice was wide receiver Equanimeous St. Brown with a hamstring issue.

The other players who missed practice were no surprise because of injuries suffered during the 40-20 win over Washington. Running backs Khalil Herbert (ankle), Travis Homer (hamstring) and Roschon Johnson (concussion) and center Lucas Patrick (concussion) did not practice at all.

Johnson said the secondary feels a sense of urgency to be back and producing. None of the starters have an interception.

"We've got to bring the energy, bring the juice," Johnson said. "I think the (backup) DBs last week started that off. I think they played a very solid game holding it down for us.

"We've got to up the energy, up the execution, just get back what we were missing. Of course we had Kyler, he was out early, then (Jackson) was out the next game, so just getting everybody back we've got to come back and we've got to start to click. We don't have time for anyone to mess up or anything like that."

One other injury issue was cleared up.

Backup center Doug Kramer went through a full practice as he tries to come off injured reserve and earn a spot on the 53-man roster. His injury was to his thumb. The injury occurred in preseason and hadn't been announced by the team.
