Is it a sign the Justin Fields momentum train is out of control when a former Packers player who regularly made light of the Bears on NFL Network is now championing his cause?

James Jones on FS1's Speak, fired off shots at an unnamed NFL executive's comment that there is no reason Fields "can't be a poor-man's (Jalen) Hurts," and called it an insult to the Bears QB. Then Jones was involved in a debate with LeSean "Shady" McCoy about the topic.

"No. 1, we talk about arm talent, his arm talent is better than Jalen Hurts," Jones said. "He's faster, more explosive, his running talent is better than Jalen Hurts.

"He does not have A.J. Brown, he does not have Davonte Smith, he does not have Dallas Goeddert, he does not have that offensive line in front of him. He did not have Miles Sanders last year. Right?"

McCoy was a back for the Eagles, Bills, Chiefs and Buccaneers. Jones played eight seasons in Green Bay and one with the Oakland Raiders, and left the game in 2015.

The show is on FS1 regularly at 3:30 p.m. Wednesdays.

Anyone who wonders just how far out of control the hype is for Fields can stop by the Verizon Store at Route 59 and Higgins Road in Hoffman Estates on Sunday to see proof.

Fields is making a public appearance there from 3:15 to 4 p.m. at that Verizon store, located at the Poplar Prairie Stone shopping center. It is the shopping center located across the intersection from South Barrington's The Arboretum shopping center.

Fields will no doubt attract a crowd as a Chicago sports icon already, in his third year.

It's already being anticipated.

Although Fields isn't playing Saturday night against the Colts, it's possible he still could play in the third preseason game

The Bears haven't announced whether Fields or starters will see action in the third preseason game Aug. 26 at Soldier Field.
