What Would Justin Fields Be Worth?

In this story:

It's the national buzz as well.

Where will Justin Fields end up? The oddsmakers now are saying it won't be the Bears as the betting numbers have shifted from the Bears as favorites to Pittsburgh.

National writers are feeling the impact from the Bears QB-draft debate as well. National SI.com insider Albert Breer started his mailbag on Wednesday with three straight questions pertaining to Fields.

A Mr. Samuel Fleming finds out Breer has always been a fan of Fields and, "...I'd still trade him," Breer wrote, adding "And, if I'm Chicago, and I can get a second- or a third-rounder packaged with a Day 3 pick, I probably do that."

A Patriots fan, asking on behalf of his team, seems to want to get Fields there on the cheap, and asked why it would take a third-rounder when Trey Lance only cost Dallas a fourth-rounder.

Hate to break it to the Patriots people but there are some analysts talking about Fields' value being a first-rounder. And Lance was terrible. He lost to Fields in the 2022 season opener with the 49ers as teammates against a Bears team that won three games.

Breer advoided blasting the Patriots, though. But Fields has been far better than Lance. If Lance is worth a fourth-rounder, the Fields must be a first-rounder.

ALBERT BREER'S COMPLETE MAILBAG THOUGHTS ON THE BEARS AND NFL

Breer pointed out again he thinks Fields would be worth a Day-2 and Day-3 pick and then pointed out what no team inquiring wants to consider.

"Then, you have to make a decision on whether or not to pick up his fifth-year option, which would give you two years of runway to figure out whether or not he’s your guy at a price of about $25 million," Breer wrote.

Apparently a Steelers fan asked Breer if new offensive coordinator Arthur Smith and Fields could "cook in Pittsburgh?"

Breer avoided references to skillets or frying pans or fire or anything of that sort and pointed out something in his response that bears remembering for anyone watching this full drama unfold.

"Mike Tomlin is as wired into Ohio State as any coach in the NFL, save for the guys, like Mike Vrabel, that actually played there," Breer wrote. "So he's gonna get the goods on Fields, and know what needs to be done to get the most out of him."

What, and Luke Getsy didn't? (Just joking).

Keep the Steelers in mind, though.

The betting world is.
