Bills Offense is ‘Scary' with Dalton Kincaid, Says NFL Exec

The Buffalo Bills added to their offense in the 2023 NFL Draft by selecting tight end Dalton Kincaid out of Utah.

Getting quarterback Josh Allen help was a big goal for the Buffalo Bills this offseason, especially heading into the 2023 NFL Draft. But how did they actually do in that regard?

A recent article from The Athletic revealed comments from anonymous NFL executives around the league discussing their thoughts on the draft class for all 32 teams. The two comments surrounding the Bills' draft haul was split. One executive really liked their first two picks while another questioned how the Bills would be able to "deploy" their new weapon in first-round tight end Dalton Kincaid.

“I like Kincaid to Buffalo,” one executive told The Athletic. “He was clearly the No. 1 tight end for us. You put him in that offense, then you take the guard in the second round. That is scary for a top-five offense to reload and potentially get better. I like what they did.”

If it wasn't for the Bills trading up two spots, they may have never landed Kincaid. Many believed in the leadup to the draft that the Dallas Cowboys would take him at No. 26 overall after letting Dalton Schultz go to the Houston Texans in free agency. But the Bills didn't want to risk their guy going off the board, so they traded up to get him.

“Getting the player is one thing, deploying him is another,” another executive said about the Kincaid pick. “When you start talking about the contenders, Buffalo is not necessarily going the other way, but they do rely too much on their quarterback. The key is going to be how well their coordinator is able to use two tight ends. You don’t see every coordinator do that well.”

Tight end wasn't a pre-draft need for the Bills since they already have Dawson Knox, who has been productive in the Bills' offense. But Kincaid was brought in as another weapon for Allen, who may be able to function in the slot after the team released receiver Isaiah McKenzie this offseason.

No, staying in two tight end sets hasn't been the core identity of the Bills offense in the recent past. But now they have the weapons to do it with more than capable pass-catchers like Kincaid and Knox.
