Buffalo Bills vs. Jacksonville Jaguars Fallout: Travel Plans To Blame?

The Buffalo Bills seemed a bit jet-lagged during their loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars in London, and looking into their travel plans, there's a reason for that.

In their first game across the pond in nearly a decade, the Buffalo Bills appeared to be jet-lagged during their 25-20 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday.

When looking at their travel plans, though, it's not hard to see why that was the case. The Bills reportedly arrived in London on Friday morning, just over 48 hours before they took the field. Meanwhile, the Jaguars had been in London for nearly two weeks as they played their second straight game in the city, having defeated the Atlanta Falcons 23-7 the previous Sunday.

While the Bills didn't use their travel plans as an excuse for their performance, it's clear that it affected them in some way. After the game, coach Sean McDermott said that the team would look at alternative options if they ever come back to London.

“We need to evaluate everything because I didn’t feel like our energy was good enough early in the game,” McDermott told reporters. "They had better energy than we did."

Bills players shared a similar sentiment as well, but again, none of them used it as an excuse. Quarterback Josh Allen said the team had to be "ready to go" no matter when they traveled, while offensive lineman Dion Dawkins said that no one can blame the loss on their late arrival. Receiver Stefon Diggs had probably the most interesting comment, as he took a slightly more hypothetical approach.

“It’s easy to say that after the game. If we would have won, what would we have said?, Diggs told reporters. “It’s easy to use it as an excuse. I’m not an excuse guy, so I’m not going to say it.”

Despite the loss and everything that came with it, McDermott said the Bills would be very open to returning to London in the future.

"Absolutely we would," McDermott said. "We enjoyed just the opportunity to be over here. It's an honor to be selected to play here and we're certainly appreciative of our hosts here in London."
