'Superman' Josh Allen Leading Buffalo Bills To Playoffs?
The Buffalo Bills escaped with their biggest win of the season when they beat the Kansas City Chiefs 20-17 on Sunday at Arrowhead Stadium.
It was a must-win game for the Bills (7-6) in a pivotal conference tilt against one of their rivals, and that's a situation they'll find themselves in for the rest of the season as they currently sit on the outside looking in of the playoffs. Despite the steep hill it needs to climb, NFL.com predicts Buffalo will catch fire and make the playoffs for the fifth straight season, thanks to its quarterback, Josh Allen.
"As an eternal backer of the Bills quarterback, I wasn't surprised by Sunday's triumph over Patrick Mahomes' Chiefs in Arrowhead," NFL writes. "And maybe the take stated in the subhead above means Buffalo (7-6) has to beat the Cowboys at home this Sunday and the Dolphins at Miami in Week 18. OK, that's fine. Allen and Stefon Diggs are capable of winning every single game they play."
The Bills' path to the playoffs became a little clearer after Week 14 with the Miami Dolphins and three of the teams ahead of them in the Wild Card race losing. Buffalo trails Miami (9-4) by two games and holds the head-to-head advantage over them thanks to a 48-20 win at home on Oct. 2.
With the Dolphins facing the Dallas Cowboys and Baltimore Ravens in two of their next three games, as opposed to Buffalo facing the Los Angeles Chargers without Justin Herbert and the New England Patriots, it's not far-fetched to believe the Week 18 matchup could be for the AFC East crown.
While the NFL is high on Allen, the same can't be said with how it feels about head coach Sean McDermott. Despite not being high on McDermott, it believes Allen can overcome the head coach and guide the Bills into the playoffs.
"Allen has to overcome his own head coach's deficiencies, but the quarterback is Superman," NFL writes. "And I like what I've seen since the change at offensive coordinator to Joe Brady, particularly the uptick in usage for dynamic RB James Cook. I foresee Allen balling out over the next month, carrying Buffalo into the playoffs and finishing as a top-five vote-getter in the MVP race."
Regardless, the Bills need to handle their business if they want to have a shot at the playoffs, whether it's as a Wild Card team or winning the AFC East. Buffalo will face a tall task on Sunday when it hosts the red-hot Cowboys (10-3) at Highmark Stadium at 4:25 p.m. ET.
