NFL Mock Draft: Bills Lose Jordan Poyer, Draft SEC Star?

Could the Buffalo Bills decide to let Jordan Poyer walk and then draft his replacement?

The Buffalo Bills are projected to be $15.2 million over the salary cap this offseason, with a number of key contributors hitting free agency. Among those key players, starting safety Jordan Poyer could be one of them.

A recent mock draft from The 33rd Team has the Buffalo Bills drafting a new safety partner Micah Hyde, selecting Antonio Johnson out of Texas A&M with the No. 28 overall pick.

"Safety is a position of need for the Bills in 2023," The 33rd Team said. "Jordan Poyer is a free agent while Micah Hyde is coming off an injury and is getting up in years. Antonio Johnson is a fluid athlete who can contribute in man coverage. His versatility would be a boost to the Bills’ secondary."

Poyer's wife said back in November via her Instagram that she wanted to live in Texas in response to a fan who said they should join the Dallas Cowboys.

The 11-year veteran led the team in interceptions with four, but despite still playing at a Pro Bowl level at age 31, it seems Poyer could be the odd man out in Buffalo if the Bills choose to re-sign linebacker Tremaine Edmunds.

Edmunds, 24, is at the end of his rookie deal and is looking to cash in after a strong season in Buffalo. If the Bills decide to go with youth over experience, drafting Johnson and re-signing Edmunds could mean Poyer walks.
