Buffalo Bills Coach Sean McDermott Looking For More Consistency From Offense

The Buffalo Bills offense has had its ups and downs through the first six weeks of the season.

The Buffalo Bills offense has had its highs and lows through the first six games of this season.

Sunday was another example of the lows, though they escaped Highmark Stadium with a 14-9 win over the New York Giants on Sunday Night Football. With a second straight subpar performance, Bills head coach Sean McDermott wants to see the offense be more consistent.

"It comes back to consistency more than anything and the things that lead to consistency," McDermott said. "That's where our focus and intentionality needs to be is what gets us to be more consistent. There's been games where we have shown what we can do but not enough on a consistent basis whether it's within a game or game-to-game. I think that's where our focus needs to be this week."

The Bills' offense has had three good and three subpar performances to begin the season. Buffalo's offense was at its best in its wins over the Las Vegas Raiders and Miami Dolphins, then opportunistic against the Washington Commanders. Across those three wins, the Bills averaged 41 points per game and only turned the ball over once.

In their losses to the New York Jets and Jacksonville Jaguars, Buffalo's offense was far from its best and plagued by turnovers and an inability to run the ball. In those losses, Buffalo turned the ball over six times and only averaged 18 points per game.

Along with more consistency, McDermott also hopes to see more players being put in a position to use their strengths and succeed. Outside of Stefon Diggs and Gabe Davis, No other receiver or tight end has more than 150 yards and one touchdown.

"We're going into Week 7 now," McDermott said. "We should know some of these guys and what they do best and the roles they're going to play and positions they're going to occupy for us. It's putting them in those positions so that we can be in the best offense we can become."

The Bills offense will look to get back on track when they head to Gillette Stadium to face the New England Patriots (1-5) on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET on Sunday.
