Buffalo Bills fans have waited at least a decade. What's another year?

Much to the presumed disappointment of Western New Yorkers eager for a trip in a time machine, Sal Capaccio, the sideline reporter for the team's flagship radio station of WGR-AM, has reported that the team has "no plans on wearing an alternate uniform and/or helmet in 2023," though he also says that an "all-red" ensemble will be worn at some point this year.

Capaccio does note that the Bills are "still evaluating plans for the future."

The NFL's teams have celebrated the relaxation of one-shell helmet rules in literal style, breaking out long-lost throwback looks previously denied full authenticity by the retired regulations. Josh Allen and several other teammates donning red helmets, a major part of Buffalo's former aesthetic, seemed to hint that the Bills would be getting in on the fun. That, however, doesn't appear to be the case as this season looms.

Buffalo last wore a red helmet in 2010. With the Bills thrust back into the NFL's championship conversation (working with an active four-year postseason streak that's the second-longest in the NFL), some supporters have asked the team to break out the red helmet and dark blue jersey they wore during the franchise's streak of four consecutive AFC championships. They've worn a white helmet in each of the last 13 seasons after previously doing so from 1962 through 1973.

During the one-shell days, the Bills were one of the few teams capable of wearing an authentic throwback helmet, having worn 1960s-style retro headgear depicting a standing buffalo (as opposed to the modern streaking emblem).

Buffalo's AFC East brethren have been part of the throwback craze. The New York Jets, for example, will wear uniforms reminiscent of their "New York Sack Exchange" days in the 1980s when the Bills visit MetLife Stadium for the Week 1 Monday night game this September. The Miami Dolphins and New England Patriots will also wear their own 1980s threads, with the latter's commonly referred to as the "Pat Patriot" look.
