The Denver Broncos had to make a few tough decisions over the weekend. But perhaps they weren't as agonizing as fans might think, as not one player the Broncos waived was claimed off waivers.

Still, it meant the Broncos had to say goodbye to two players the team had hoped to re-sign to the practice squad. Safety Jamal Carter is signing with Atlanta's practice squad, while former sixth-round offensive guard Sam Jones jumped ship for Arizona's.

The Broncos' practice squad now sits at a full 10 players.

Here are the players the Broncos chose to keep on the practice squad to run scout team this year.

Brett Rypien, QB: Rypien showed flashes but clearly wasn't quite ready for the limelight of the NFL. He's got some upside and even received some interest around the NFL after Denver waived him, but ultimately chose to stay home with OC Rich Scangarello and see what the future holds.

Quinn Bailey, OL: Bailey was an undrafted rookie pickup this past spring who showed a few flashes for the Broncos. Ultimately, though, he's still too raw to keep on the active roster but give him a year under Mike Munchak's wing, and who knows what's possible?

Fred Brown, WR: If Brown had punt returner capabilities, he would have made the 53-man roster. Alas, the Broncos have plenty of receivers who catch passes but they needed a sixth guy to return punts. Brown will go on ice and await an opportunity if the injury bug strikes the depth chart in-season. He had a very strong preseason for Denver.

Ahmad Gooden, OLB: An undrafted rookie, Gooden picked up momentum toward the end of the preseason but it wasn't enough to justify a roster spot. The Broncos already had four studs at the position, so Gooden will get some time to incubate.

Alijah Holder, CB: Holder is long, physical cornerback who quietly had a solid camp and preseason. He picked off a pass in the Broncos' preseason finale but this was a depth chart immensely difficult to crack. Perhaps next year for the former Stanford standout.

Tyler Jones, OL: Jones was a late addition to training camp but the Broncos really like what he brings to the table. The former N.C. State left tackle projects as an interior player in the NFL and will get additional time to incubate under Munchak's wing.

Khalfani Muhammad, RB: Muhammad was arguably the Broncos' offensive MVP of the preseason but unlike Phillip Lindsay's path to the roster a year ago, it wasn't consistent or dominant enough to make the roster. Muhammad has some potential but for now he'll operate on scout team.

Jake Rodgers, OL: Rodgers made the roster initially, but was waived to make room for Corey Levin. Rodgers is a tackle prospect with some upside who can continue to develop.

Deyon Sizer, DL: Sizer was signed as a college free agent, then waived during camp, then re-signed. The CSU-Pueblo product has some fans in the Broncos' front office because I didn't see anything this summer to justify even keeping him on the practice squad.

Josh Watson, LB: Watson also made the initial roster but curiously, the team decided to re-sign Keishawn Bierria after waiving him on Saturday and waived Watson. Why didn't the team just waive Watson on Saturday instead and keep Bierria initially? Good question.
