Broncos CB Bryce Callahan Expect to 'Try & Practice' on Tuesday

Two of the three big free-agent signings the Denver Broncos made this past spring were players with questionable injury histories. Offensive tackle Ja'Wuan James wasn't exactly the epitome of dependable in his five years in Miami and that has been borne out through the grand total of 32 snaps he's played thus far as a Bronco, due to a knee injury.
The other was cornerback Bryce Callahan, whom the Broncos signed just a couple of months removed from having surgery to correct a broken foot that ended his Chicago Bears tenure a few games prematurely. Once in Denver, it appeared as if Callahan was fully healthy and recovered from his foot issue, as he was one of the 'stars' of OTAs and the early portion of training camp.
Alas, toward the end of July, Callahan's injured foot was stepped on during a scrimmage at Mile High Stadium and he hasn't been seen on the field since. However, that could change according to head coach Vic Fangio.
“Yeah, I believe he’s going to try and practice tomorrow and we’ll see,” Fangio said on Monday.
The Broncos will hold one extra practice this week as the team prepares for their road trip to take on the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday. Callahan will "try" to practice on Tuesday. Hopefully, he doesn't suffer any setbacks.
The Broncos thought they'd be getting Callahan back in the first quarter of the season, so they didn't place him on injured reserve, but that foot discomfort and pain continued. Trying one last-ditch effort to salvage his season, the team had Callahan undergo a procedure to "promote healing" in the final week of September, knowing it would cost him at least another 4-6 weeks.
The team will know this week whether the hope they've been holding out on has been unfounded. It would be great to see Callahan out there playing across from Chris Harris, Jr. like the team originally planned.
Callahan signed a three-year, $21 million deal back in March as a second-wave of free agency pickup. While it might be a bit too ambitious to hope that Callahan could play this week vs. Minnesota, if all goes well during this week's practice, perhaps fans will indeed see his Broncos debut at some point within the next couple of weeks.
Fangio said that the team is practicing Callahan this week in more of an effort to “see where he’s at" than with any real expectation of him playing in Week 11. But you never know.
Callahan has played each of his five NFL seasons in a Vic Fangio defense, and knows the scheme well. The Broncos could really use his experience and savvy, especially in the slot, which would allow Harris, Jr. more freedom and take a little pressure off of second-year duo Davontae Harris and Duke Dawson, Jr.
