Broncos individual player grades for Week 3 revealed

It was a bummer loss for the Denver Broncos at Lambeau Field as they couldn’t muster their first win in Green Bay. What makes it so disappointing is the Broncos actually won most phases of the game, except for the turnover battle.

Denver turned the ball over three times, which led to the Packers putting 14 points on the board. To sum it all up, the Broncos once again shot themselves in the foot and ended up losing the game.

There were multiple Broncos that played a good game, and some who played poorly. This game's film was not fun to go over and formulate the grades because of how they lost.

As always for the regular season, I'll hand out four positive grades, four negative and four others that just need to get talked about.

This grading system has been honed and adapted for the last five-plus years. Each player starts with a grade of 50, and it will either get raised or lowered based on each snap and the player's impact on the play.

A cornerback on the backside of a run shedding a block will get a slight raise to their grade, but a corner shedding a block in the run path at the point of attack will get a higher raise in their grade, as they have a bigger impact on the result of the play.

Let's dive in.

The Good

Bradley Chubb, OLB: 87.4

The second-year player has been great for the Broncos through three games so far. He may not have any sacks, but he has been outstanding against the run. He blew up multiple runs against the Packers, and the game he played earned him a film article from me later this week.

Adam Gotsis, DE: 83.5

When Derek Wolfe left the game with an injury, the run defense took a big hit. Thankfully, Gotsis really stepped up his game. He was great against the run, and did manage to notch a couple pressures on Aaron Rodgers, including the first near sack of the game. There were a few times Gotsis got blown off the line, but not many.

Courtland Sutton, WR: 81.2

Sutton is more than just a 50/50 ball receiver. His routes look a lot cleaner compared to where they were a year ago. Not only that but he is playing faster, quicker and is a lot more dangerous with the ball in his hands. It wouldn’t surprise me if Sutton ends up being talked about as one of the best receivers in the NFL next year if he continues progressing as he has.

Phillip Lindsay, RB: 79.8

The Broncos' offense was largely Lindsay. He did have a drop as a receiver and missed some lanes as a ball-carrier, but he still had a great game. Week 3 gave us flashes of Lindsay from last year with him being quick to the line of scrimmage and bursting through the hole. Denver needs him to get fully back to form, including his vision, which has been lackluster so far.

The Bad

Elijah Wilkinson, RT: 27.3

Ever since he stepped in at right tackle, Wilkinson has struggled. That changed against the Packers in a bad way. He went from struggling to being abysmal. Wilkinson relinquished multiple hits on Joe Flacco, constantly getting put into the QB's lap and multiple sacks, including a strip-sack. Even on the ground, Wilkinson was struggling. If there was doubt before, there shouldn’t be now. Wilkinson is a guard pretending to be a tackle.

Shelby Harris, NT: 41.2

It was a rough game for Harris. He did get some penetration, but he was really bullied on the ground. When the Broncos ask him to one gap, he really shows his potential, but he has been doing a lot of two-gapping. Harris doesn’t have the size or strength to two-gap like he has been.

Chris Harris, Jr., CB: 44.6

Is Harris the same player he was? So far the answer has been 'no'. There is no doubt Harris has been the worst cornerback for the Broncos this season and he has been getting picked on the last two games in coverage and as a run defender. It really looks like Father Time is catchup up to the veteran corner.

Connor McGovern, C: 48.7

Kenny Clark is a good interior defensive lineman, and he worked McGovern. McGovern got put on the ground with multiple different moves from Clark and showed what weaknesses he still has in his game.

Other Grades of Note

De’Vante Bausby, CB: 74.6

It was nice to see Bausby take the field. He showed why he was able to make the Broncos' roster with how quickly he closes on the ball. A physical corner, he wasn’t always able to step up against the run, but he wasn’t afraid to mix it up.

Garett Bolles, LT: 71.9

Was it perfect? By no means, but it was a really good step forward from Bolles after the rough week he had against the Bears. His technique looked very improved from a week ago, and he really looked like the Bolles we saw end the 2018 season on a high note. He gave up few pressures and really opened lanes in the running game.

Von Miller, OLB: 67.7

Despite not getting any sacks, Miller played a really good game. He applied a lot of pressure on Aaron Rodgers, only to see the Packers' QB throw the ball away before getting sacks. Miller has still been around, and his run defense is still really good.

Dalton Risner, LG: 65.3

It was a tough game for the rookie, and taking on the Packers' defensive front isn’t any easier than his previous matchup. He had some bright moments, especially as a run blocker, but there were times he looked like a rookie out there. His best play came from pulling Lindsay into the endzone for a touchdown.
