Phillip Lindsay calls out negativity in Broncos Country and 'bandwagon' fans

The Denver Broncos are 0-3. They're a team with the longest active losing streak in the NFL — seven — dating back to Week 14 of last season.

After this third loss to open the 2019 season, many fans lost their cool. I've seen fans calling for John Elway's head on social media, I've seen calls for (funnily enough) the Broncos to fire Vic Fangio, and I've even seen calls by fans to trade Von Miller.

Pro Bowl running back Phillip Lindsay is not amused. As a Denver-born and raised player, he's disappointed in that cross-section of fans riding the negativity train.

Let's not forget, Lindsay grew up cheering for the Denver Broncos, rooting them on and believing in them. He knows what it means to chase down a dream and the mental fortitude required to realize that.

On Wednesday, the second-year player had a message for Broncos fans who've already written off the team.

“Only you guys are sitting here not believing in us," Lindsay said. "If you’re a true fan, then you believe in us. If you’re not, if you’re just a bandwagoner, then you’re going to believe what you want to believe. At the end of the day, we have a lot of football left. If you haven’t played this game, then you just don’t know. You’re looking on the outside. We have a lot of games left and we can still be in the playoffs and we can still make a big run for it. When we do it, I don’t want everybody jumping on the bandwagon saying I told you so.”

As optimistic and fiery as Lindsay's message is, the Broncos are increasingly running out of time to turn the ship around. Only six teams in the last 12 years have started 0-3 and made the playoffs.

All the Broncos can do is take it one game at a time, one opponent at a time. Next up are the Jacksonville Jaguars, who will roll into Denver at 1-2 with a rookie at quarterback.

“It’s going to be really big for all of us," Lindsay said. "For the fans, for all of us, it’s a big week for us. We’re taking it one day at a time. Our job and what we want to do is move the ball and score touchdowns. That’s what we have to do as an offense.”

We've written about it, podcasted about it and made videos about it ad infinitum. Once the Broncos' offense finds it's rhythm consistently and breaks out, Fangio's vision for the defense will take shape and the formula this team needs to win will be in full effect.

The Broncos won't get a better chance than Week 4 at home to open those floodgates. The Jaguars are the 20th-ranked total defense and are giving up 110 rushing yards per game and 255 passing yards.

Phillip Lindsay played with great intensity and fire last week. The Broncos will need another all-out performance from their sparkplug offensive piece in order to finally get onto a winning track.
