How do the Broncos Really Feel About QB Drew Lock?

GM John Elway has a bad track record with quarterbacks, but the Denver Broncos need Drew Lock to break that trend. Lock was a quarterback that everyone in the building wanted, and the Broncos lucked into getting him.

With that in mind, he's still a complete unknown as a player in the NFL.

This week, Lock is finally getting to practice, but that doesn’t change how questionable Denver’s handling of him has been. He was a prospect that Denver drafted to be the future of the franchise, and was showing progress in the preseason, but the team iced him on injured reserve unnecessarily.

Lock has to see the field this year. His footwork was a big issue with him during the pre-draft process, and while it can be worked on from the sidelines, it needs to be seen during a real game whether it's improved. This is one area he showed growth during his limited preseason action.

The injury Lock suffered wasn’t a bad one, but it was unfortunate timing. WIth how he had played during the preseason, he had won the backup quarterback job, or was well on his way to doing so. Then his thumb gets messed up, and it has been a long, weird road to where he's at with the Broncos now.

One thing is certain with Lock. Denver can’t and won’t know what they have in him until he takes the field. This is a question that they have to get answered prior to the end of the season. If the Broncos don’t have it answered, it is a decision that could set them back three more years.
