Joe Flacco doesn't see Broncos' rash of dropped passes as 'being an issue at all'

The Broncos' receivers and tight ends have had their fair share of drops this summer. How big of an issue is it really?

Dropped passes have been an especially prominent storyline since the Denver Broncos opened training camp last month.

At first, we attributed the drops to it being a case of nerves getting the best of a few guys early on. But the issue has persisted and has even shown itself in the actual preseason games more times than the Broncos would prefer.

At the same time, dropped passes are a part of football. No receiver, regardless of experience or talent, is going to catch 100% of every pass that hits their hands.

The good ones catch almost everything, though. Friday's joint-practice session with the San Francisco 49ers was once again replete with drops by Broncos' receivers. OC Rich Scangarello called it a "choppy" practice for his unit.

That being said, how big of an issue are the drops, really, for the Broncos? Let's hear what the starting quarterback has to say about it.

“I don't think so," Joe Flacco said following Friday's practice. "I think we have a bunch of big, strong-handed, tough guys that—come game time, they are going to catch the ball. I don't see that being an issue at all.”

Practice is the time to polish the rough edges and work out the kinks. When drops become a true issue is when they carry over into games.

In the Hall of Fame Game, there were several notable drops, including one by first-round TE Noah Fant, as well as rookie WR Juwann Winfree. I'm sure I'm forgetting some from Game 1, but in Game 2 vs. the Seahawks, the Broncos' receivers were much more sure-handed.

That's what really matters. At the end of the day, the majority of receivers catching (and dropping) passes during training camp practices won't even be on the roster come September.

If the collection of Emmanuel Sanders, Courtland Sutton, DaeSean Hamilton, as well as Jeff Heuerman, Noah Fant and Troy Fuamagalli, are still dropping passes, and the miscues are coming in-game, then we'll have something to write home about.

Until then, charge it to the game.
