Patrick Surtain II Hints at 2024 Contract After Diggs Megadeal

In this story:
On Tuesday, Dallas Cowboys cornerback Trevon Diggs agreed to a five-year extension worth up to $104 million with $42.3 million guaranteed. The megadeal, making Diggs the NFL's fourth-highest-paid player at his position, sets the new floor for future CB contracts.
Such as that of Denver Broncos star Patrick Surtain II, who's eligible to be re-signed in 2024 — and who, based on his reaction to Diggs' pact, won't be cheap.

The ninth overall pick of the 2021 draft, Surtain has blossomed into arguably the league's premier corner, coming off a season in which he earned both first-team All-Pro and Pro Bowl honors. He's inarguably the Broncos' best player, the straw that stirs the drink on defense.
His talent is unignorable; his value is limitless. So much so that Surtain's own coaches are doing the negotiational bidding for him.
“He’s special. I’ve watched him play in a lot of games, and he’s special," Broncos defensive coordinator Vance Joseph espoused last month. "He’s a prototype when it comes to height, weight, arm length and all those things. His special trait is his intelligence. He’s a very, very smart player. He understands the game, and he works at the game on a daily basis. When you combine that part with his physical traits, it’s unique. He’s coachable, and he wants to get better every single day. He’s definitely a special player.”
Entering the penultimate year of his $20.962 million rookie deal, Surtain is set to earn just $940,000 in base salary and a roster bonus of $1.625 million — a pittance for a player of his magnitude. Hence, the tweet you see above.
Surtain, 23, appears poised to break the bank with another standout campaign, perhaps becoming the richest cornerback in league history when the smoke clears. And it'll be well-deserved.
Locking down their franchise bedrock should be Denver's first order of business next offseason. He's only going to get more expensive.
