Broncos WR Tim Patrick Slams the 'Cocky' Chiefs

In this story:
News flash: Tim Patrick doesn't like the Kansas City Chiefs. For that matter, the Denver Broncos' veteran wideout doesn't care for the Las Vegas Raiders either.
“I don’t like either of them, honestly," Patrick said this week on the Broncos Avenue podcast. "They both do it in different ways. The Chiefs do it in a cocky way. They have every right to be cocky, but to be cocky and not good, it rubs me the wrong way... I’m not a fan of the Raiders. I’m not a fan of the Chiefs. [The] Chiefs are cocky little sh**s.”
Indeed, the Chiefs are the 800-pound gorilla sitting at the top of not only the AFC West hill, but the entire NFL. They're the defending World Champions, after all.
Throw in the fact that the Broncos haven't defeated the Chiefs since Week 2 of the 2015 season, back when Peyton Manning was still calling the signals, and it's clear who has the bragging rights. For a time, Broncos Country could point to the trophy case and still sleep well at night when it came to measuring up to the Chiefs.
But now, the Broncos' three Lombardi Trophies are matched by the Chiefs and the Raiders, though the latter hasn't brought home any hardware since 1984. Naturally, such a sustained era of dominance over the Broncos sticks in Patrick's craw.
It likely bothers every player, coach, and executive at UCHealth Training Center — as well it should. But each season brings a new opportunity to rewrite the narrative, and that's exactly what the Sean Payton-led Broncos are looking to do in 2023.
Patrick missed all of last season with a torn ACL suffered in training camp. He's expected to return to the lineup 100% this next season.
It'll be fun to see what designs Coach Payton has cooked up to maximize Patrick's reliable skill set. One of the NFL's better possession receivers, what Patrick might lack in quick-twitch ability, he more than makes up for with his combination of size, technical prowess, and, of course, those trusty hands.
Here's to hoping Patrick's charged remarks don't end up as bulletin board motivation for the Chiefs or the Raiders. Remember, the Raiders have swept the Broncos in each of the past three seasons (six straight wins).
It's time to blow this bad AFC West ju-ju out of the Mile High City and for the Broncos to reemerge from the NFL doldrums as a competitive force to be reckoned with. Stay tuned.
