Week 5 around the NFL proved to be beneficial for the Browns and the outlook for the remainder of the season.

My personal Week 5 wishes did not come true, but the way that the action shook out in Week 5 proved to be just fine for the 2023 Cleveland Browns.

Jaguars 25, Bills 20

In a perfect world, the Browns would have wanted the Bills to take care of business across the pond. But Buffalo ultimately couldn't get out of it's own way. Some questionable travel decisions led to them sleep-walking through the first half and their comeback was too little too late.

This isn't the end of the world for the Browns. There is a log jam of teams at 3-2 which keeps the Browns in the conversation early in the season. Keep December 10th circled on your calendar, it could be a pivotal game when the Jags come to Cleveland.

Colts 23, Titans 16

It was wishful thinking to want the Titans to take control of the AFC South. I'm not sure what is going on in Nashville, but I do know that it is not good football.

Gardner Minshew and the Colts took care of business in Indianapolis which makes the October 22nd game all that more important!

49ers 42, Cowboys 10

Whoa.

The 49ers are the best team in the NFL and there is no debating it. They have the best roster from top to bottom and Kyle Shanahan is in such a rhythm calling plays.

While the 49ers are playing the best football in the NFL right now, that doesn't mean they are unbeatable. They have not played a defense like Cleveland's, and more specifically, a defensive line like the Browns. Cross-country travel and a bad forecast may play a factor, but Cleveland has the tools to take down the Niners.

Steelers 17, Ravens 10

The visiting locker room at Acrisure Stadium has to be cursed. Drops, mistakes, and a red zone interception cost the Ravens a stranglehold on the AFC North.

Like it or not, the Steelers winning is what the Browns needed. It kept them one game back in the division and we can only assume that the Steelers won't keep winning this way.

It wasn't a perfect bye week for the Browns, but everything is still on the table and still under the Browns' control.
