2024 NFL Mock Draft: Is This Penn State Edge Rusher a Good Fit For Buccaneers?

The Ringer makes the Buccaneers case to select Penn State edge rusher Chop Robinson.

NFL Draft season is in full session. Two weeks away from the event, 2024 NFL Mock Drafts have been running rampant, breaking down each and every scenario for each franchise. For the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, there is no wrong approach — whether it be taking a swing at a first-round talent or trading back to collect more talent.

In a recent mock draft released by The Ringer, the Buccaneers stood pat and made an intersting selection with their first-round pick. At pick No. 26, the mocks has the Buccaneers selecting Penn State edge rusher Chop Robinson.

After playing his first season a Maryland, Robinson finished his college football career with two seasons at Penn State. This past season, he totaled four sacks, 7.5 tackles for loss, two forced fumbles and 15 total tackles.

Over the course of three college football seasons, Robinson finished with 11.5 sacks and 20 tackles for loss.

"Robinson finds a home in Tampa, where he will be the perfect fit in head coach Todd Bowles’s defense that is maximized when there is a second pass rusher to flank their duo of elite defensive tackles," The Ringer wrote.

"Robinson will pair nicely with edge rusher Yaya Diaby, who led the Bucs in sacks last season as a rookie, and as a replacement for former first-round edge rusher Joe Tryon-Shoyinka, who has been disappointing and is in the last year of his deal," The Ringer continued.

Again, there are plenty of directions the Buccaneers can go in this draft. Staying put in the first round seems most likley. Depending on how the early portion of the first round goes could change the Buccaneers' eventual decision at pick No. 26.

"The Bucs may have wanted to go offensive line here, but with a record nine offensive tackles already gone in this mock draft, it makes sense for Tampa Bay to choose the ridiculously athletic Robinson, whose 9.68 out of 10.0 relative athletic score ranks 53rd among all defensive ends since 1987," The Ringer wrote.

With two weeks until the big day, watching whether the Buccaneers make any moves or have any clear direction with their first pick will be intruiging. Bringing in a high-potential talent like Robinson makes sense with an early pick, using later-round picks to fill holes and add depth to the roster.
